December 6, 2016 – The Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM) and The Leapfrog Group announced  five hospitals in Michigan have been named to its 2016 list of Top Hospitals, which honors the highest performing hospitals on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The winning facilities will be officially recognized at Leapfrog’s Annual Meeting on December 6, 2016 in Washington, D.C.

“The Top Hospital award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of a hospital’s staff in providing safe and high quality of care to Michigan patients,” said Bret Jackson, president of EAM. “I hope more hospitals participate fully in the 2017 Leapfrog Survey so we can possibly see more Top Hospitals in Michigan next year.”

Receiving the Top Teaching Hospital award is:

• Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming
• University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers in Ann Arbor (fourth time receiving a Top Hospital recognition)

Receiving the Top Rural Hospital award is:

• MidMichigan Medical Center in Gladwin
• Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont (second time receiving award)
• Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital in Reed City (second time receiving award)

This year, 115 Top Hospitals are being honored. Of those, 9 were recognized as Top Children’s Hospitals, 56 have been named Top General Hospitals, 21 were named Top Rural Hospitals, and 29 were named Top Teaching Hospitals.

The Top Hospital award is given to teaching, general, rural and children’s hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals Methodology. This includes infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.
