Novi, Michigan: The Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM) applauds DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit for being one of the top nine children’s hospitals in the United States according to The Leapfrog Group. Two other Michigan hospitals were also recognized: Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids as a Top Urban Hospital, and OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group in Escanaba and Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview as a Top Rural Hospital.
On Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014, The Leapfrog Group announced its annual list of Top Hospitals. The award recognizes hospitals that exhibit excellence through the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey in a combination of safety, quality and resource use standards set by Leapfrog, a nonprofit organization representing large purchasers of healthcare advocating for improvement in hospital care.
“These Top Hospitals represent the best of American healthcare and deserve to be recognized for their commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of their patients,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
EAM President Bret Jackson said, “We are thrilled to have one of the top children’s hospitals in the country right here in Michigan and we appreciate the efforts of DMC, Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, St. Francis Hospital and Spectrum Health conduct toward patient safety and hospital transparency. With healthcare being one of the top industries in our state, we hope to see more hospitals from Michigan on this list next year.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Survey compares hospitals’ performance on national standards of patient safety, quality, efficiency and management structures that prevent errors. Top Hospitals have lower infection rates, higher survival rates for high-risk procedures, decreased length of stay and fewer admissions.
