The Economic Alliance of Michigan (EAM) is a Leapfrog Regional Leader since 2014, working with providers, purchasers, payors and patients in Michigan to drive safe, high-quality health care.
“The work the Leapfrog Group does is vital in saving lives. Their Hospital Safety Grade helps patients and family members decide which hospital will provide the best care. If you choose a ‘C’ grade hospital over an ‘A’ grade hospital, your chances of dying increase by 88 percent,” said Bret Jackson, president, EAM. “On behalf of the EAM, we congratulate the seven hospitals awarded as a Top Hospital and thank you for your efforts in providing a high level of patient safety, especially during these times of uncertainty with the ongoing pandemic.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that rates hospitals on how well they protect patients from errors and infections, as well as the effectiveness of procedures and other care they provide. A total of 149 hospitals were selected as Top Hospitals, including: 8 Top Children’s Hospitals, 46 Top General Hospitals, 23 Top Rural Hospitals and 72 Top Teaching Hospitals.
“We are pleased to recognize our 2021 Top Hospitals. Their commitment to transparency, patient safety, and quality care saves lives every day,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals continue to face challenges as the pandemic evolves, and upholding these quality and standards is a major achievement. EAM has done an exemplar job in Michigan, and we can expect them to be at the helm of this journey.”
The Top Hospital award is given to teaching, general, rural and children’s hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals Methodology. This includes infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other standards.
